Under the buttonwood tree

I love this picture from the Reuters best photographs of 2008.

A wonderful human interest story .A picture which speaks more than a thousand words. The plaque behind the man speaks of the establishment of the New York stock exchange in 1792. A man loses all his money and cries over his losses as he comes out of the exchange. The plaque universalizes the experience of the man extending it across time. The man losing his life’s savings in the stock exchange is not merely today’s event but something which has happened all the time, ever since the establishment of the stock exchange.
