“The town of Chaiten, south of Santiago in Chile, has been evacuated, leaving only animals, following the eruption of the Chaiten volcano for the first time in recent memory…”
The picture does not call for celebration because the residents have left the town on account of a volcanic eruption leaving only the animals behind .The picture is lovely one but what about the animals? It hurts to think .

It really hurts to think about it. Pictures of cows trying to eat leaves in the trees, covered by ashes. But, this tragedy is all a sad situation. I’ve been in these cities and I’ve met some of the people that are being evacuated. They live under almost unbeliavable hard conditions: during the winter, the weather is inclement, the cities are almost isolated from the world. It rains for weeks in Chaiten and the snow covers all in Futaleufu. There were genuinely nice people, with hard hands from work and good hearts. Chaiten inhabitants were forced to leave, they did not have any option to stay and care for their animals. Amost 200 Futaleufu residents choose to stay to care for their animals, that are their most precious acquisition and are almost part of the family life since they are used for work, transportation, food, … and during the winter they need to shelter and protect them.
And, it is very sad for me to remember of their sad eyes and happy hearts and think that all they loved and cared can be gone foverer.
Like you have said it is not the fault of the residents that the animals have to stay back and bear the brunt of the calamity. Whatever be the compulsion ,the situation causes anguish.
Somehow i missed the point. Probably lost in translation
Anyway … nice blog to visit.
cheers, Obscurely.
